WE WROTE A BOOK!!

'Lead from the Middle' is Mikel's experience as a trouble shooter for large jobs in the mining industry. A failing jobsite is wreaking havoc on the lives of the workers. A one-way ticket and three weeks later: All requirements are met. Mikel walks us through the process of how he approached this situation. The story focuses on the idea that no matter where you are in the company, you can have a positive effect on the job, the bottom line, and each individual you interact with. Your Leadership affects more than just the jobsite. Ultimately, you are affecting lives! Learn how you can lead your team to success.

This story starts off heavily detailing a situation when Mikel was called at 3am by a suicidal coworker. What he would say on that phone, success or fail, depended on whether or not he led from the middle. Mikel brings us face to face with the stark reality of working in a broken world and asks the question: Have you led in such a way that may save someone's life?

"Get in the Dirt with your People!!!"

A statement we've made a lot around here. It all started with some posts made on LinkedIn over 4 years ago. This message has been shared over 300 times, almost 9,000 reactions so far, and almost 800 comments !!  WHY is this resonating so much with so many people??  Because it's true!! Read the post below...

"I know you’re sick of hearing it....Not sure I care though. GET IN THE DIRT WITh YOUR PEOPLE! I don’t care about your college education. I don’t care about your experience. I don’t care about what you think you know. You can’t make policy for your people unless you are in the dirt with them. I’m sick to death of safety managers, and Opps staff who think they can earn trust and manage well from your safe little office. We need to get in the mud! We need to strive to see what works. It’s a struggle but it’s well worth it!!" 

 

This message pertains to any industry and job situation.  This pertains to your family. How?  It pertains because people are involved.  We need to be 'in the mix' whether thats being a parent or a leader at the office or jobsite. Get involved!  Ask questions and see what people are thinking, what do they need, what do they wish the higher-ups knew? And then do your best to make improvements. Employees want to know that you care about them. Our kids want to know that we care, we understand, and we're not just throwing the rule books at them! 

Get in the Dirt! Strive to see what works. It's a struggle but it's well worth it!!! You've Got this!!!

I cannot recommend Mikel Bowman highly enough. You will not find another person with more all-around integrity, drive to push forward, passion to lift people, inspiring honor, kind humility, and a desire to leave a legacy! Mikel is the real deal. Reaching out to him was the second best thing that happened to me this year. The best thing is now I have a new friend as well.
